What is Semaglutide?

Semaglutide is a GLP-1 analogue, in other words, it is a synthetic version of a naturally-derived molecule produced in the body called glucagon. Semaglutide is used to treat Type II Diabetes Mellitus and has become notable as an effective treatment for Obesity.

The New England Journal of Medicine published an article on their findings from a 68-week study of once-weekly Semaglutide in adults. They found that Semaglutide once a week combined with lifestyle modifications produced a sustained reduction in weight. People could lose 20% or more of their body weight while on Semaglutide.

Who can take Semaglutide?

It is indicated for adult with a BMI of 30 or greater or a BMI of 27 with associated high blood pressure, type II diabetes mellitus, or high cholesterol.
