
What is Semaglutide?
Semaglutide is a GLP-1 analogue, in other words, it is a synthetic version of a naturally-derived molecule produced in the body called glucagon. Semaglutide is used to treat Type II Diabetes Mellitus and has become notable as an effective treatment for Obesity.
The New England Journal of Medicine published an article on their findings from a 68-week study of once-weekly Semaglutide in adults. They found that Semaglutide once a week combined with lifestyle modifications produced a sustained reduction in weight. People could lose 20% or more of their body weight while on Semaglutide.
Who can take Semaglutide?
It is indicated for adult with a BMI of 30 or greater or a BMI of 27 with associated high blood pressure, type II diabetes mellitus, or high cholesterol.
It can also be prescribed for children age 12 and above with a BMI above the 95th percentile or greater for their age and sex.
How does Semaglutide work?
Semaglutide delays gastric emptying thereby giving you a feeling of satiety for an extended period. Basically, it curbs hunger and because it mimics a natural hormone in the body, it helps to regulate metabolism.

How do you take it?
Semaglutide is taken by injection in the fatty tissue. You can stop by our office for your shot or we send a one-month supply to your home. The needle is about ⅝” or smaller.
When do you take it?
It is recommended that youtake the injection once every week. Take it on the same day, only, it does not matter what time of day you choose to take it.
Is it safe?
This medication is considered safe. If you have a personal or family history of thyroid cancer you should let the doctor know. It is recommended to stop this medication 2 months prior to planned pregnancy for females and males. Some of the typically reported side effects of Semaglutide are gastointestinal related; namely, nausea, constipation, upset stomach, etc. Gallbladder and pancreas-related disorders can occur.
